You are not a perfectionist

perfectionist.jpeg

You are not a perfectionist.

You just say you are.

As an excuse.

Not to finish things.

Why?

Because you don’t want to finish.

You do not want to finish.

Your goal was never to finish, and likely never even to start.

You might find it hard to see yourself as a finisher.

That would mean showing up and revealing yourself.

Exposed.

With blemishes.

That thing completed, thrust into a vivid and critical arena.

Those who finish things finish because they view completion as more precious than the false victory of evading scorn.

So they did what it took to do so.

To complete, even if the product was indeed: imperfect.

Even if the road was dull, dark and painful.

Are perfectionists those who can’t finish or those who make sure they finish?

It doesn’t matter.

To finish something, forget what’s behind you.

Be who you need to be.

Keep your neck rigid, like a soldier at boot camp, and:

Look forward.

Look forward.

Look forward.

Just change your target.

Completion.

Not avoidance.

You will finish.

No. Matter. What.

Over and over again.

And you will do it faster than you knew you could.

Suddenly your perfectionism is no longer required.

You are a creative demon with a glint in your eye.

And doing things is a thrill again.
